Junius Meyvant’s voice reminds me of a more soulful, Icelandic Future Islands. That’s high praise given our affection for Sam and the boys. Junius’ Neon Experience drops July 8 on his debut album, Floating Harmonies. An early favorite for many a summer playlist.
We don’t often feature instrumentals, but Origami by The Geek x Vrv is definitely worthy of a post. That staccato synth line had me from the first listen. Very Carboot Soul for you old timers.
Love or hate her, Katy Perry puts out some damn catchy songs. While I can’t bring myself to post her here, Siba’s take on This is How We Do gives you all that sugary goodness you love while simultaneously allowing you to retain your indie (*cough*cough*) ‘credibility’.
Jesiah’s Babylon is another track that just screams summer evenings around a beach campfire. Fans of Vampire Weekend take note.
Drivers’ stripped down sound is equal parts stumbling drunk and sing aloud, hands in the air indie. I don’t hear much of San Diego in Nick Leng’s sound, but the song is pretty awesome nonetheless.
Finally, Blue by Pools is all about sophistication, mystery and…crushing on a friend? Listen, I’ve been there Pools. I know your pain. All that aside, I would give this track the award for ‘song most likely to be playing in the background while someone is making love’. If only such an award existed…
