I wasn’t really familiar with Billy Who, but damn did this song hit me like a ton of bricks. The build up to Do It All Wrong creeps along, but is soooo worth it. This is a slow burner that has been on repeat all week.
L.A. based Aly & AJ dropped a surprise track this week, Take Me and its worth a listen or two. Fans of Haim will immediately recognize the layered choruses and sunny, upbeat vibe that has, for better or worse, come to identify a particular segment of the L.A. indie scene. For what its worth, It all kind of sounds like Wilson Phillips 2.0 to me…
Fatas Mandalas’ bandcamp page describes his music as ‘loser lo-fi’ and the ‘shitsongs of shittier days’, but I’m not buying it. Into the Night might lumber along, but there is something cathartic about his reminiscing of lost loves that almost sounds….well, positive. Almost.
I like goats. Actually, like might be a bit tame. I love goats. The meaner the better. When I was growing up in Hawaii, my grandfather had goats that would knock us over all the time. Sure, it sucked, but I respected their authority in the pen and learned that you don’t fuck with mean goats. Anyway, Dutch Party has a picture of a goat on his soundcloud profile. Sold. Blade Runner is pretty catchy too.
If you pushed me I would probably say that Let Me Go falls somewhere between dad rock, Prince and Twin Shadow. Accurate or not, Sisters definitely has a definitive sound. Fusing soul falsettos, pop piano riffs, some dirty beats and a Fleetwood mac’ish guitar solo at the end, Let Me Go really does sound unique.
I posting two older tracks from 1000 gram because I think that this Berlin band is one to watch. I love finding new bands (new to me that is) and listening to their tracks its clear that they can write catchy indie songs. Check out McHale and So Do I, So Do All to see for yourself.
